òThe base of most
vertical platform lifts is 2ö to 3ö above the floor on which it is
mounted.á This means
that either a ramp or pit is required to allow passengers to wheel onto
the platform.
òRamp Entry at the Lower Landing
òRamps are easy because
they involve no pit construction.á Most ramps with a 1:10 or 1:12 ratio
will project 33ö - 39ö from the entrance door.á Some jurisdictions require power door openers
if ramps are used.á Ramps projecting into a
walkway may create a tripping hazard.
òPit Mounting
òThis is the preferred
arrangement because entry onto the platform is level, like an
elevator.á Pits are
generally 3ö deep.á If using a pit
outdoors be sure to provide for drainage from the pit.
